About Accelerate Nutrition

Melbourne Dietitians Specialising in Disability, NDIS and Everyday Nutrition

Accelerate Nutrition is a Melbourne-based dietetics practice. We provide personalised nutrition support for NDIS participants, Support at Home clients, and private clients across Victoria and Australia-wide via telehealth.

Our team of Accredited Practising Dietitians works alongside a dedicated administration and accounts team. This means your referral moves quickly from first contact to a booked appointment — without the back-and-forth that can make getting help feel harder than it should be.

What We're Here to Do

Our mission is to be the leading nutrition and dietetics provider in the disability and aged care sector in Australia. We do this to enrich the quality of people's lives in our communities and build their capacity to fulfil their life goals.

That sounds big — and it is. But in practice, it starts with one conversation, one nutrition plan, one session at a time.

We provide support that goes above and beyond what you could access through mainstream health services. Every strategy we build is personalised to your life, your goals, and the people around you.

Common misconceptions about seeing a dietitian
0:00 There's some common misconceptions about dietitians and what we do. The biggest one would be that people often think that we're the food police
0:07 and that we're going to be really prescriptive and tell you what to do, rather than working with you. So that's a complete myth.
0:15 We absolutely will always work with you to make sure that whatever we're recommending is going to be suitable for your situation
0:24 and your lifestyle. The other big myth is that there may not be value, or that it might not be worth the money seeing a dietitian.
0:32 Again, I would say that's a huge myth, because we get feedback all the time that it's so great just to talk to someone
0:39 and to get that really personalized feedback, recommendation,
0:45 and support that you can't get from just Googling. So that's really important to remember.
0:54 We're real people as well, and we can use our own experiences. From helping hundreds of clients ourselves, we have a lot to offer
1:03 in terms of personalizing our advice and also making sure that it's specific for you, not like a cookie-cutter meal
1:10 plan that you might download from the internet that will be completely unsuitable for your requirements and your lifestyle.
1:18 So we tailor every single thing that we are saying and recommending.
What a consultation is like
0:00 Actually, yesterday, to be honest, I had a super recent example. A lovely mom and her teenage son
0:07 who’s 15 years old came to me pretty concerned about some weight gain, being overweight, and not being able
0:16 to control hunger and eating. It was a really great session because the teen was super motivated and proactive.
0:23 That was really great. I worked with him by looking at what I was seeing
0:31 in terms of his diet and lifestyle, and some areas to work on. I asked, “What can you do?”
0:38 “What do you think is in your control to change?” From that, we had a really good conversation and came up with a plan
0:45 that he essentially came up with himself, with my guidance and overview. He walked away from the session with a plan for
0:53 what he was going to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, what he was going to take to school,
0:59 and what he was going to eat when he came home from school. So it was a really clear plan, and he’s now on track
1:07 to control his weight and lose weight so he can get back into AFL and exercise, which he really wants to do.
1:13 He’d been limited by that recently. I also had a young adult woman come to me with
1:21 a long list of gut symptoms, including discomfort, pain, and bowel issues.
1:26 She was really keen to get some control back in terms of her symptoms and confidence around what she could eat and what she couldn’t eat.
1:35 So I worked with her on implementing a low FODMAP diet, which is an evidence-based way to manage gut symptoms for some people.
1:44 We went through the whole process in terms of implementing it, the different phases, reintroducing foods, and what she could eat.
1:53 We also covered what she needed to swap out in her diet, and I gave her a shopping list plus meal and snack ideas.
2:01 So it was really practical. Over the course of a few months, with my support and guidance, she was able to
2:09 first of all resolve the symptoms she was experiencing, and second of all start getting more variety back into her diet.
2:18 She was also able to pinpoint exactly which foods had actually been her main triggers for the gut symptoms.
2:25 There were some foods she could eat completely fine and bring back in.
2:29 There were also some foods she needed to be more careful about in terms of portions and how often she was eating them.
2:39 So we went through the whole process with her, supporting her along the way, and now she’s super happy. She feels much more in control of her symptoms, pain-free, and able to go out to restaurants, eat different foods, and balance her diet to manage the symptoms.
2:50 That was a really rewarding case as well.
Online vs in person consultations
0:00 People often ask about online consultations and whether they offer the same value as an in-person or in-clinic appointment.
0:08 The answer to that is absolutely yes. They are equivalent, and you will get exactly the same level of support online that you would in person.
0:15 A lot of what we do when you see a dietitian involves talking and conversation. We chat, and we ask questions.
0:19 All of that can be done online, and often people find that really convenient because we can book appointments when it suits you.
0:27 You don’t need to travel. You don’t need to find parking. You can do it from your own home at a time that suits you.
0:35 Often, we can offer after-hours appointments online as well.
0:43 So the value is exactly the same, and we really want to make appointments as easy as possible for you.
0:52 That way, it’s easier for you to attend when you need to.
Dietitian home visits explained
0:00 One of the great things about a home visit is that we can actually be in your environment and really see and understand where you're living and what your situation is.
0:07 So a home visit will involve us coming into your home, and we will have a big chat about what you're wanting to achieve, what has happened to date, and a bit of your background.
0:17 We'll ask a lot of questions, but that's just to get the information that we need.
0:26 We may even have a look in your pantry and talk about what kinds of foods you usually buy at the supermarket.
0:35 We might talk about what your shopping list looks like, what kind of cooking skills you have, and what your kitchen facilities are like.
0:42 That way, as dietitians, we can come up with a plan that's going to be practical.
0:51 Home visits are amazing because we are in the house with you, and we can help you come up with really practical, sustainable recommendations that you can start implementing straight away.
1:00 So that's what a home visit would look like.
